The JEE Mains examination will be conducted twice a year.For the JEE Mains paper 1 which is conducted by NTA(National Testing Agency) in janauary there are total about 11,18,673 registrations for JEE Mains examination including both B.tech and B.arch.There are about 9,21,261 registered candidates for b.tech in which only 869010 candidates appeared in JEE main in paper 1.

As of the Januart attempt the official data released by NTA suggests that there are a total of 11,18,673 candidates have been registered (9,21,261 for B.E./B.Tech., 1,38,409 for B. Arch. and 59,003 for B Planning) .
The official figures are not yet available for July attempt but those will be in the order of this data.

In 2019, according to the official figures released by NTA, a total of 9,29,198 students appeared for the JEE Main Paper 1 in January against 9,35,741 appearing for the same in April session.
Now since in 2020, 869010 candidates appeared for JEE Mains Paper 1 in January session, so according to previous year trend, an approximate 9 lakh students could appear in the exam. But one can never be sure and the number of students appearing could shoot up or go down by a big margin also.
