Actually it was 3 till 2018.
But with the introduction of new pattern in 2019, the latest details can be found in the link given above.
It will be 6 now considering 2 exams held every year.

Hello Dear
A student can able to attempt three times the JEE mains paper . Infact the good thing is that from next year onwards the NTA has provided you the opportunity to write the JEE mains two times per year which is in the session January and in April. So it will be better for you guys that you all will be getting overall 6 chances to write the JEE mains examination.
