Hello Varsha. I hope you are doing well. Currently, there are 31 branches of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in India. In 2021, the seats are allotted on the basis of several categories that are prevalent like ST, SC, GEN, OBC, PWD.

The table given below, depicts the number of seats allotted for various categories of candidates:

  1. Open - Total Seats - 9150
  2. Open - Person with Disabilities (PwD) - Total Seats - 465
  3. GEN-EWS - Total Seats - 2037
  4. GEN-EWS-PwD - Total Seats - 123
  5. SC - Total Seats - 3311
  6. SC - PwD - Total Seats - 180
  7. ST - Total Seats - 1991
  8. ST - PwD - Total Seats - 123
  9. OBC-NCL - Total Seats - 5824
  10. OBC-NCL-PwD - Total Seats - 302

The seat matrix for various streams  can be checked on the official website of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority 2021. In order to check Seat Matrix of NITs, follow the steps:

  • Visit the official website of JoSAA.
  • On the left-hand side of the page, locate the Important Information column.
  • Click on the Seat Matrix link on the column.
  • On the seat matrix page, choose institute type as NIT from the drop-down list.
  • Choose NIT name from the Institute name drop-down list to get information on specific NITs. Similarly, choose a course if required.
  • Hit the Submit button.
  • The seat matrix will be displayed. It will complete seat division for all categories.

Hello student..

As of 2020, the total number of seats for undergraduate programs is 23,506 and for postgraduate programs 13,664 in all the 31 NITs put together.
