How many types of medical seats in TamilNadu?. Please clarify me? I mean deemed, management quota, Govt seat under mgt quota etc....
Dear Ravi,
Largely, there are three types of medical seats for MBBS,
-
All India Quota (
AIQ
) seats:
Present in all government medical colleges, which is 15% of the total intake. So, for instance, if Kanyakumari Government Medical College, Asaripallam has a total of 100 MBBS seats, out of these 15 seats will be reserved for AIQ, which are given through Central counselling by DGHS on behalf of MCC. All candidates can apply for AIQ, but only very high rankers in NEET have a chance of getting admission on these.
- State Quota Seats: The seats which remain in government medical colleges, i.e. 85%, are given by respective state medical authorities through State Quota. So, in above example of Kanyakumari Government Medical College, Asaripallam, remaining 85 seats will be under state quota. Most of these seats are given to candidates belonging to that particular state.
- Management Quota Seats: They are present in all private medical colleges. The fees of these seats is comparatively higher than AIQ and state quota. While most seats in private colleges comes under management quota, some private colleges may also reserve a percentage of these for government quota whose fees is lower.
Deemed universities are other than private and government medical colleges, whose seats largely comes under management quota only and the fees is also high. In case of Tamil Nadu, colleges like Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Kancheepuram, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Chennai, etc. comes under the deemed university.
I hope it clears some of your confusion pertaining to medical seats.
All the best!
