Hello Aspirant,
It all depends on the difficulty of the paper. If you need a good college and a good branch, try to get at least 1/3 rd of the total marks.
This depends on what sort of branch and which college you want. For eg- if you are just concerned for CSE branch then in 2017 cutoff was around 6000 rank ( IIT Jammu) for general till seven rounds of counseling. If you want a more popular college then you need to score as good as AIR 50 for CSE in IIT Bombay.
If you observe the trend of the previous years here's what has been cut off for JEE Main
2013 - 113 marks
2014 - 115 marks
2015 - 105 marks
2016 - 75 marks
2017 - 126 marks
2018 - 90 marks
The trend of the marks say that around 30 % is enough to qualify for advance, but then clearing advance is again a different ball game altogether.
All the best!
