Hi
It is very difficult to say how much percentile or marks you should score to get a decent college. The cutoff varies every year and also for every session. It all depends on how many candidates are appearing in that session
How hard the paper is
Even if you are from sc category i would like to suggest that you give your best. Practice revise and revise again. In competitive exams like jee mains no amount of preparation is enough. Its not about how tough the paper is it is about how efficient you are. So if you are serious about jee mains study and study hard and please keep your health in check.
To give you a rough idea try to score above 85 to 90 percentile to get top nits that is 70+marks
According to previous years some nits rank got low as :
Nit Andra Pradesh :8450
Nit agartala: 9207
Nit Nagaland 8641
You can calculate your rank by (100- your percentile)* no. Of candidates/100
Try to score as much as possible. The more you score the better. Solve mcqs...clear your concepts...time bound practice....utilize you free time...and when you are too tired clear your mind a little

Hope this helped
Hi
NITs are the best colleges that you can get through jee main so let us consider that.
Actually this difficult to predict the marks/percentile / rank you require in JEE mains to get into NITs etc as closing rank keeps changing every year depending upon various factors like
-
number of students that appeared in the exam, kind of marks obtained by them ,
-
toughness level of the jee main examination ,
-
number of seats available for the branch you want etc.
But yes,
When we go through previous year trend then ,
Under other state quota , closing rank for some of the nits for which closing rank goes low are listed below along with their closing rank in the 6th round of josaa counselling 2020 for sc category :
-
National Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering :- 8450 sc rank
-
National Institute of Technology nagaland, Instrumentation Engineering :- 8641 sc rank
-
National Institute of Technology Agartala, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering :- 9207 sc rank
You can check the same at
https://josaa.nic.in/Result/Result/currentorcr.aspx
From above, it is clear that to be on the safer side need at least a rank of around 8000 to 9000 sc rank to get into an NIT under other state quota. And to get a rank in this range, you need at atleast around 85 - 86 percentile i. e at least 70+ marks to be on the safer side as per our rank predictor at
