Well this is a question most of engineering students ask before joining. And it is one of the most important question to, because, it is our career and it is good to ask such questions.
Now to answer you, stream you choose, plays a vital role. Also the demand in market should be taken onto consideration while this. If you choose mechanical engineering, it has huge scope for job related chore.
Also engineering as a whole is the best and moat flexible field to form a base for masters, as you can opt for MBA, MS, MTECH and many others.

Inorder to become a good engineer you need to pay for it with your hardwork and dedication, inorder to achieve your goal for becoming a good engineer you suppose to be enter in good technological institutes like IIT'S and inorder to enter into that you need to carrer oriented from class 8-9 onwards. You should also be know that how much hardwork is required for coming under this category so basically you have to work accordingly to become a good engineer.
