You haven't clarified which NIT. In case of any NIT , if u get a rank of around 20k you have good chance of getting cse and it can go upto max of 30–32k without taking state quota into consideration. And if you are lucky enough and your state have less population density yay! You.
But if you talk about top NITs they aren't a piece of cake to get into. As you go up there is not much difference in OS vs HS( for ex: NIT Trichy CR for R-1 OS is 913 and HS is 3219) there is not much gap but also not so less to ignore.
