You can't secure good rank just by doing previous exams. They are just for the knowledge about which type of questions can be asked and to maintain speed and acuracy. Better is to go through your syllabus and understand concepts deeply.

Just solving past year question papers will not help you in getting a good rank.Yes, solving past year question papers will give you a lot of advantage in terms of understanding the type of questions and understanding how to solve them as well as maintaining speed and accuracy but you must also complete the syllabus with the help of standard books and mainly with your 1st PUC books.
A combination of both will help you to get desired rank.
