The aspirant have to score 75 percent or above in the qualifying exam (JEE Main 2020) or rank in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards to get admission into NITs. By the help of rank card you can get to know that whether you are getting a seat in NIT or not.. If you lie in general category then your rank should must be lie under 20k-22k to get a seat in better NIT.. You can check the previous year cutoff for every branch in every NIT on the JEE MAIN site.

It is difficult to provide a unique number because admission into NITs depends on the rank, candidate's category, preferences of branch/institute and cut off marks. Depending on number of candidates qualified, difficulty of exam and number of seats available cut off changes. To have decent chances of getting seat in a NIT and branch of your preference you need to score minimum 120-150 marks and your rank must be within 4000. This is an estimation based on the cut off in 2020.
