through jee mains only you can't get in to so called top technical institute IITs .for getting in to iits you have to qualify JEE advance and that too for better branch and better location and campus you have to be under the rank of hardly 1000 that will surely find you the best possible.
but with ranks in jee mains also you can get in to many prestgious college like nit warangel,trichupallli ,delhi but need to score 250+ marks in mains .

That completely depends upon on your prefered branch and your caste category. Usually,in almost all the colleges the cutoff for CSE, ECE,IT, MECH, EEE branches high cutoff so inorder to get a seat in those branches you should score 99.5 percentile.
Whereas branches like Chemical, Production, Ceramic, Biotechnology have low cutoff so 98.5 percentile will be enough considering that you belong you general category.
