Though covering the syllabus for the exam without coaching is a viable option for preparation and many past instances have proved that it's tried and tested. However, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join a national level test series for assessing your current level of preparation. This is the game changer when it comes to scoring high percentiles.

You can do the following if you're not joining a coaching:

-Use class X ncert to brush up quant concepts

-Read novels/newspaper for improving grammar and vocab

-Find resources online for standard DI/LR questions.

Then, practice practice!

1. Revise concepts of Class Xth Maths and Grammar ( preferably CBSE board )

2. Buy any popular book from where you can practice questions of all sections

3. Most importantly take up a mock test series of a popular coaching centre ( like Career Launcher, IMS, TIME). Give the mock test as if you are giving the real exam. You will get familiarized with the online exam mode. Once the results are out, thoroughly analyze the right and wrong questions. Make sure you note the wrongly answered question, so that you don't repeat the mistake in subsequent mocks. After few mocks you would recognize your strong areas and the areas on which you need to practice more. Target to give 2 mocks per week.

There are many students who prefer CAT preparation by self but it is recommended that if you are unable to prepare by self definitely choose to take up professional guidance.

If you are aiming CAT 2017 then time is less and you will have to speeden up with the preparation and then the revision.

  • Read a newspaper online daily. It can done in your spare time. It could be The Hindu or Firstpost.
  • Also start Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis.
  • Refer to detailed correspondence material online like of TIME or some other good brand.
  • Refer to previous year papers, practice them, attempt them again and get good in the sections.
  • Once you know which section you are good in and in which you are weak, focus on weak sections and do not escape.
  • Time is less so do not spend much time on one.
  • Give sectional online/offline mocks and analyse your preparation.
  • In any case you require guidance, online you will find various material and tests on a topic.

    • Prepare well and smart!!
