hello aspirant,
You should pass 12 th board exam with PCM .A Gen/Obc candidate must score 75% or should be within top 20 percentile in the board exam.SC/ST candidate should score 65% in board exam.If you can't obtain the % as stated you can't join NIT/IIIT/CFTI or take JEEadv .Unless you qualify in JEE main you can't take JEE adv.You must possess Aadhaar Card.
The criteria may differ based on caste system that you can check on the JOSAA website. Then you have to qualify the JEE MAINS and ADVANCE exams. For admission in IITs the marks of JEE MAINS does not affect your rank, as the whole ranking is based on what you scored in the JEE ADVANCE. After the ranks are declared after ADVANCE , you have to fill preferences for the various IITs with particular stream in them . Then within few days counseling starts ,the preference which suits your rank and the availability of seat will lead to the allotment of the seat. Then within a particular time period you to confirm your seat if you are taking admission in IIT.There is also an option that you can confirm your seat but wait for the remaining counselling if you are something better than what you got now. This is the procedure for engineering if u have queries related to commerce and arts background do comment upon.
Hope it helped
please note :All this information will be available on the institute website and also on JOSAA.
JEE Advanced is the entrance examination for admission to IITs. For being eligible for JEE Advanced, you should qualify in JEE Mains and score atleast 85 percentile and above. That is the cut off for last year. Again Cut offs depend on various factors such as total no .of seats available, difficulty of the exam, previous year cut offs, no.of Candidates appearing for the exam and no.of Candidates applying for a course. To qualify for JEE Mains, there is no minimum aggregate criteria. But if you want to join NITs, IIITs or CFTIs then you should score a minimum aggregate of 75% only in your 12th. 11th marks aren't considered. And then to appear for JEE Advanced which is the gateway for admission to IITs, you will need to fulfill the 75% aggregate condition. Now it is 75% for General Category and 65% for Reserved Categories. So how much you score in 12th is what matters to secure your eligibility for NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and JEE Advanced. But this year the 65-75% aggregate rule has been waived off. We are not sure about next year though.
There are various ways to join IIT :
1.) B.Tech
For doing btech from IIT you have to clear JEE Mains examination and then you will be eligible for JEE Advance examination which happens in the last week of May every year.
Only those students who are appearing in 12th board exam or had passed it previous year with minimum of 75% marks or in the top 20 percentile their respective board are only eligible candidate for this exam.
One JEE Aspirant have two chances to clear JEE Advance to get a seat in IIT.
M.Tech :
For M.Tech candidate need to qualify GATE exam held in the month of February.
Candidates should have completed their Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in any relevant science subject or must be in the final year. While applying for GATE, there is no minimum passing percentage in the qualifying degree, but most IITs have cutoff for selecting candidates having 55-60% in their bachelor's degree.
MSc :
For doing MSc one need to qualify IIT JAM exam conducted by IITs and they must have 55% marks in their bachelor's degree.
PhD:
It is a research oriented work done under guidance of professors, there is no exam All India based compitative exam for this, one need to apply and after qualifying tests conducted by each IITs and then having personal interviews one will get selected based on their performance in test and interview.
