The paper usually comprises of two parts in which:
Part1:- Tests your language skills.
Part2:- Tests your current affairs and general knowledge.
The key areas that you need to focus on are:-
1. Reading habit
So reading would include reading at least 4 national dailies and keeping par with the news related to the economy, international developments, and society. You must also read related magazines and about the most influential people in this field.
2. Writing skills
Writing skills are utmost important for this field. You can practice by writing small notes on the articles you read and by developing your opinion and perception.
3. Study topics
There are various fields of journalism like Advertising, film-making, Public Relations, Event Management, Radio, Photojournalism etc. So one should have a fair idea of the syllabus and themes that are pivotal to these subjects.
4. Analytical and Comprehensive Skills
Many institutions test their students on the basis of reasoning ability, analytical and comprehensive skills. You must give attention to this area for this you may go for the previous year question papers.
5. Reference books
So here are some books you may choose from:-
- Success Master: Journalism & Mass Communication Entrance Examinations 2016 - Useful for all basic knowledge of the media, media-related aspects, and general knowledge.
- Manorama Yearbook 2016 - Useful for current affairs and general knowledge.
- Also, follow the newspapers (particularly Times of India & The Hindu) to stay updated on the latest news and current affairs.
- Keep your knowledge of Hollywood and Bollywood up-to-date, refer to websites such as IMDB. Look at matters such as Oscars and Grammy Awards.
- Famous television channels (India & abroad), their celebrities, their tagline, and the issues they cover. Google is your best friend here but you may also refer to magazines.
