Hello,

SSC CGL is a popular government exam among candidates and lakhs of aspirant apply for this exam. This exam is conducted in 4 tiers.

SSC CGL Tier I which is also called Preliminary exam.
The major sections asked in Preliminary Exam are General Awareness, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language of 20 question each.

SSC CGL Tier II also called mains exam.
The Mains Exam is conducted online and is an objective multiple choice exam.
The areas from which question is asked in Mains Exam are Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics, General Studies (Finance and Economics) with No. of Questions being 200 in English and 100 in other 3.

SSC CGL Tier III
It is a descriptive exam to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The mode of examination is offline (Pen and Paper mode) and students are required to write essays, prcis, application, letter etc.. The exam is of 100 marks and the time allotted is 60 minutes

SSC CGL Tier IV
This exam is to test DEST (Data Entry Speed Test) where the candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.

CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): Requires a candidate to be proficient in Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides skills.

As you mentioned you are currently in you B.Tech 2nd year and you are devoting 3 hours everyday. If you will keep preparing consistently I am sure you can crack this exam in one go.
This amount of time is good in the initial preparation because you have to cover you college syllabus also.
But you must prepare for this exam in a planned way.
Try to give more time in the subject or section you are weak at.I assume you must be having a good mathematics so you should not devote much time to that and instead you should working on your weak subject like suppose you English is weak then try to focus more on that.
You have plenty if time left so you can prepare for GS portion with ease. You should deviate 20-30 minutes everyday into that.
Start reading the topics in the exam that are new like Economics must be new to you so go through past year question papers and try to understand the questions.

You must prepare for the syllabus from the standards books only.

Initially its okay to start with 3 hours but be consistent and try to increase time gradually and in your final year prepare with more pace and efficiency because this exam is very competitive and you will have to be staring in each area to crack this exam.

And finally, be consistent, disciplined ,have patience and perseverance because this is all it takes to crack any exam.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

You're still in your second year and have got ample amount of time to prepare for SSC CGL. Make a timetable and start with small steps.

To initiate with any exam, first of all go through its syllabus. That's very important because SSC and Bank even though have same subjects in their examinations, but in reality things are different in the sense you may find SSC often repeats its question,  there's no sectional timing in SSC unlike Banking exams, and also the level of question whether it's Maths, English or Reasoning is comparatively easier in SSC. You can go through previous year questions to know more details regarding this.

Maths and English form the crux of SSC CGL Exam as these subjects are given huge importance in Tier-I and Tier-II, so from now only, you can work on these subjects, make a habit of reading a newspaper everyday, you can choose between The Hindu or The Indian Express to keep yourself updated, developing this habit will brush up your knowledge which will be very useful in General Awareness Section of SSC CGL. At later point, you do not have to mug up all news at once.

You may refer the following books-

  • Quant- Quicker Maths by M Tyra/ Fast Track Arithmetic by Arihant Publications /Quantitative Aptitude by RS Agarwal
  • English- General English by SP Bakshi or Plinth to Paramount
  • You can also refer Wren and Martin, that's the best book for grammar. Word Power Made Easy for Vocab.
  • For Reasoning- RS Agarwal Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey
  • Lucent's GK is prefered by many for General Awareness Section

Make sure to keep your resources minimal, also go through mock tests or test series regularly at later point when you're near to appearing for examination.
