Hi

In jee main there are 2 types of ranks :-

  • CRL  i. e common rank list  rank / overall rank among all the students ( including students of all categories) . Crl is considered for josaa counselling in case of general category students.

  • Category rank :- For each category there's a  separate category rank which takes into consideration of students belonging to that particular category only . If you belong to ews/ obc / sc/st then your category rank is considered in josaa counselling.

Difference

the difference between CRL and category rank is that CRL is overall rank while category rank represent your rank within the category you belong to.

For example,

Let's say that 100 students attended JEE main examination and you were one of them and got 80 th rank among those 100 students.

Out of those 100 students, 20 were obc and let's say you also belong to OBC category and let's assume that among those 20 students you scored that second highest marks then your OBC rank will be 2 .

Thus, in this case your CRL or overall rank will be 80 while your OBC rank will be 2.

Hello Aspirant,

NTA prepares various rankings for JEE Mains. First, they prepare a Common Rank List(CRL) which includes all students, then it also prepares seperate category rank list for SC, ST, OBC,EWS. Based on these Rankings and Reservation policy, cutoff marks are decided for various Categories.

Thanks!!!
