The Combined Defence Service examination(CDS) is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) for further training into various military, navy and airforce training institutes.
The notification for the examination is usually released in month of October and June and the examination is conducted in February and November respectively.
Only unmarried graduates of age 19–24 are eligible to sit for the exam.
Those Candidates qualified in the written exam after which they are shortlisted for an interview by SSB. Apart from SSB interview, candidates applying for air force will be tested for PABT. After these tests, candidates undergo medical examination, after successful completion of training, they are introduced into the armed forces.

To get into Air force, one must opt for Air Force as first preference in the CDS application form, mind you must have studied Mathematics and Physics in your bachelors, otherwise you would not be considered for Air force. If you clear your written and SSB interview then on the basis of your performance your preferred choice would be allotted. Better the final score, more will be the chances of getting top preferred academy. The Air Force academy is situated in Hyderabad.
