Yes, it is mandatory.
An NRI student, or whose parents are NRI's or NRI Sponsored where anyone in blood relation (First Degree) are eligible for NRI quota, subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institutions and the Government of India.
You need following documents to claim NRI Quota:
1. Documents claiming that the person is an NRI (Passport, Visa of the sponsorer)
2. Relationship of NRI with the candidate
3. An affidavit from the sponsorer that he/she will sponsor the entire course fee of the candidate duly notarized
4. Embassy Certificate of the Sponsorer.
To apply for Admissions under NRI Quota, you need to mention it in the Registration form of Respective Entrance Examination, If we talk about NEET-UG, you can visit on the Website of MCC, there is already a Notice issued by MCC for Admission Process of NRI's and to change your Category from Indian to NRI.
