Raja, if you are studying in India and then going abroad for Residency, you may have to join an observatory period of atleast 1 year in a clinical set up because the clinical practise in the US is different from the one in India. You need to be EFMCG certified before you take up any residency programme. And you need to clear USMLE Step 1 and 2 before you apply for residency programme. Once you clear USMLE, you have to apply for identification number. And once you receive the identification  number, the process of certification begins. And post certification, you can start searching for Residency programmes. The National Resident Matching Programme Electronic Residency Application Service is an online tool that facilitates and matches the information between students and the residency programmes.
