Career counselor helps the clients to identify their skills and strengths by using assessment, tests regarding their career options and pathways.
After 12th you cannot become a career counselor directly. First you need to earn a bachelor's degree in counseling or human service related field. It'll help you to learn human development, counselor skills and career development.
Later you can earn a master's degree in counseling and complete graduate and postgraduate internship experiences for certification.
There are two exams which you need to clear
1. National counseling examination
2. National clinical mental health counseling examination
You need lisence to practice as counselor. You can also earn certificate under National Career Development Association. It offers credentials for traditionally trained counselors and others to pursue education as career development facilitator, career service provider.
