To become Government Teacher, aspirants should have the basic qualification required for the level aspirant aims to teach, that is Primary, Elementary and at Intercollegiate level. Candidate should have acquired Senior Secondary /Graduation/Post Graduation required to apply for the Teacher Training course such as NTT/BTC, BEd and Other.
Further candidates are required to obtain Teacher Eligibility Certificate by qualifying Teacher Eligibility Test. These Teacher Eligibility Tests are held at State and Central level by institutions authorised to conduct these test by State or Central Government.

Currently, CTET (Central Eligibility Test) is held at the Central level by CBSE for certifying Primary and Elementary level Teachers and State TET is conducted by respective State Authorities for certifying PRT, TGT and PGT level teachers. Further candidates are subjected to Written Examination/Interview by the respective recruitment authorities for assessment before the final selection as Government Teacher.
The government introduced CTET/TET to set a benchmark for quality of educational and to encourage standardised recruitment process across the country. It also aims at improving and innovating the teaching methodology followed by institutions.
CTET is conducted in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) format, there are Two papers in CTET i.e Paper I and Paper II, aspirants intending to be a teacher for classes I to V have to qualify Paper I and to get CTET teacher certification for classes VI to VIII candidates will have to qualify CTET Paper II. Furthermore, if aspirants wish to teach from classes I to VIII, they can attempt both the paper I and Paper II. Candidates are required to secure minimum 60% marks to get CTET certification. Similarly, state level TET examinations are held for recruitment of Government Teachers in schools funded, aided and run by the state government.
