It's basically depends upon whether the way you think.
If you're in first year, you have so much time but you have less knowledgeon the topics. What I want to say is when the topics are started in 11th class go with the JEE main syllabus too. So that it would be good to have knowledge and with the knowledge on 11 you can easily practise the questions in 12 too.
This is the option you have
And if you can manage the fee link joining into any training institutes. They will make you learn and also it depends upon you too. Like you need to practice.
If you have only some months like now you are in 2nd year. Then definitely you need to practice all the model questions and whenever you're having free time try to take some mock tests .
Try to follow best books like rdshrma, op. Tondon, HC VERMA books.
All the best.
There are some straight forward fundas for clearing the JEE.Let me divide it in 2 cases :
Case 1
Suppose you have done preparation for the JEE along with your 12th class board studies from some coaching institute . Then obviously you would have better knowledge then others if you have studied and practised well. Then simply on the exam day you just have to confident. That's sit
Case 2
Suppose you are relying only on the syllabus you covered from the NCERT that you have done quite well. Then i would suggest you to cover the previous year paper asked in JEE exams. After soing this you would easily achieve a total of 160-170 easily.Through this you can admission in college of you choice
All the best
