Dear Michli

The All India Ranks (AIR) in NEET are not allotted on the basis of categories. The sole basis of determining rank in NEET is based on the score obtained by one in the NEET 2018. However, when in case two or more candidates obtain same score, the tie-breaking criteria is used, which also doesn't include category as a factor. Below given are the tie-breaking factors:

  • First of all, marks in Biology section of NEET 2018 will be considered. One with higher marks will be given higher rank.

  • Followed by that, marks in Chemistry will be considered to break the tie.
  • If the tie still persists, then, no. of wrong answers or negative marking will be considered. One with lesser number of negative marks will be given higher slot in ranking.

  • If all the criteria mentioned above fails, then age will be taken into account. One senior in age will be given priority in rank.

Now, besides All India Rank, states release their state merit list on the basis of NEET AIR. Under state merit list, some states might release separate list for OBC category. That is the only case I can imagine wherein ranking in NEET would be distributed on the basis of category.

Hope it helps.

All the best!
