Dear Omkar,

First, let me tell you a bit about the educational qualification required to get Scientist/Engineer jobs in ISRO -

Minimum education qualification -

1) You should have a 4 years bachelor engineering degree/Master degree in specified engineering stream.

2) Your degree should be approved from the AICTE.

3) Your degree should be from a regular institution.

Minimum marks requirement -

1) Your minimum marks should be 65% through all the semesters in Engineering

Age requirement -

1) Your minimum age should be 18 years.

2) Your age should not be above 42 years.

So, clearly, you cannot join ISRO until you complete your graduation with decent marks and solid academic records.

To become a scientist at ISRO one first needs to have opted Math and Physics as his subjects at 10+2 level and have a thorough basic knowledge of these subjects.

For BE/B.Tech - (For Branch - Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science) -

ISRO recruits Scientists through ISRO Centralized Recruitment Board(ICRB), an exam conducted every year for the posts of Scientist. Individuals are tested as per their respective branches of engineering and after clearing the interview, one can get appointed as a scientist or an engineer at ISRO.

The call letters for the written test to the short-listed candidates will be sent. So make sure that you have at least 70-75% in your Qualifying Degree ie, BE/B. Tech or equivalent since minimum eligibility is B.tech with a minimum 1st class of aggregate 65% (6.84 CGPA)

For BE/B.Tech - (For Branch - Electrical, Civil) -

Support & Infrastructure related posts. But the vacancies are very less compared to Electronics/ Mechanical / Computer Science. ISRO does not recruit Electrical/Civil engineers every year.

Eligibility is B.tech with a minimum 1st class of aggregate 65% (6.84 CGPA)

The exam is generally held in the month of April every year. Candidates can apply online only and the online registration procedure requires your valid email address.

You will have to make sure that your record stays academically good throughout as the selection criteria set by ISRO for hiring a fresher as a scientist is not very tolerant at its thresholds, so to stand out as an applicant it is a fundamental requirement.

You can also join the ISRO after completing your post-graduation if you wish to pursue that. After the completion of M.Tech or D. in trades such as Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Instrumentation, Applied Mathematics, Geophysics, Geography or any other equivalent degree in the field of Physics or Mathematics you can apply directly for the job of a scientist at ISRO. The selection consists of a written exam and Interview and after clearing these stages scientist/Engineer position can be obtained in ISRO.

My suggestion would be after you complete your B.Tech do the following -

1) Make sure your basics are good in 2–3 core subjects of your domain. Brush up your skills.

2) Buy a Gate syllabus book, prepare well for Gate exams, ISRO exam is inline with Gate exam. If you clear the exam and the next step is Interview.

3) Improve your presentation skills, try to answer basic questions on subjects of your choice.

Prepare well and be confident. Good luck!

Hope this helps.

Hello Omkar

Actually i think you need to modify a question little bit because you cannot join ISRO "during" your Btech or BE, you can only join ISRO after completing your Btech that too with atleast 65% marks and from any recognized university.

Thank you.
