you cannot join the engineering department or navigation department in the merchant navy since you have commerce background . to join merchant navy one should one should have 10 or 12th or equivalent examination in physics , chemistry and biology.

but you can join merchant navy related to pantry if you hold bachelor degree in commerce.

To join Merchant Navy, it is mandatory for candidate to have Physics and mathematics at intermediate level and should have atleast 60% in 10+2. As you are a candidate of commerce stream then you join Navy by NDA (Nation Defence exam). NDA exam is conducted twice a year by UPSC.

Other than this, you can pursue GP Rating course, it's a three months course which is conducted in many Institutes all over India. As we know that every ship has officers and Seamen's (just a jargon) so, if you do GP rating course the rank you get is Able Seamen (AB) or Ordinary Seamen (OS). As per the guidelines, an Ab or OS requires 36 months before he is eligible for becoming an officer.

And the next way to join merchant navy is that you can join offshore job (means when you doesn't work on ship but you still in the profession of Merchant Navy) by DG shipping courses.
