Hello,
CAT is one of the toughest exam for MBA. But as they say, we can climb Everest with planning, strategy, dedicqtion and aiming. A little planning and plotting can help you crack exam.
First of all try joining some coaching class for it. This is because, cat is all about speed, shortcuts and coaching class help us providing with that. Also daily practice of those shortcuts, tips and tricks is required. Now while studying you tend to develop your own tricks, and these tricks help alot.
Solving mock question papers, reading journals, newspapers, watching news channels and english english movies can help you with english part of CAT examination.
Dedicating a good 8 to 10 hrs daily to cat preparation is recommended. And solving mock papers every 3 days.
All the best, try doing all the things and you are good to go.
Aiming for Cat 2019.
You should make sure that you get a very good reading speed which will be a primary requirement in Cat. And 500wpm is not good enough. 600-1100wpm with 60%+ comprehension is good enough. This can be enhanced by regular readings and newspapers.
2nd thing is go through the Cat website and download the official syllabus.
3rd Join some coaching institute and buy 3-4 mock series tests from different institutes.
4th Use 50%time for english and rest equally divided in other subjects. An average person needs 6-8 hours daily. You can figure out yours once you start the preparation.
5th start preparing part by part each subject and start giving chapterwise mocks. Dont focus on mock scores, rather focus on how much did u attempt and with how much accuracy and what went wrong when the clock was ticking.
6th Improve over the time.
7th Dont give up and give full time full course and all subject mocks.
8th Appear for the Cat and excel it.

Well if your aim is 2019 then you can make yourself familiar with the cat syllabus.
Understand the syllabus
This is a useful tip for almost any exam. Understand the syllabus by going through past years papers and official guidelines. CAT can be segmented into four broad parts-
Quantitative Ability
Data Interpretation
Logical Reasoning
Verbal Ability
The concepts used in this examination are broadly of class 10 level. However, the questions are little bit tricky to solve and require good amount of logical thinking. Butit can be developed by practice.
If you have a lot of time, you can go for coaching. However, if you are into a hectic job and get very little time to study, you can prepare on your own without wasting that time in going to coaching. Coaching will only give you guidance. Rest depends on how sincerely you practice.
Also, the syllabus of this exam does not require any special training. Most of the things we already study in our school. There are few concepts which can be revised from books.
I wish you all the best.
Cheers !!

*Start reading newspapers, each day devote a good amount of time in skimming through papers. This would initially be a preparation for RC and then later on, when you attain good speed and understanding of the passages, you can switch to business newspapers. These newspapers have a good number of graphs and tables, and understanding these will aid you in Data Interpretation section.
*Since you have good amount of time, you can also start reading magazines, preferably business magazines like Business World, and magazines like Frontline, etc.
Now coming to specific sections that you will encounter in CAT:
1.) VA-RC: Good degree of reading with the capability to understand the gist of the passage in one go, is all what is needed for CAT that will subsequently come by practice. You can refer to books like - "How to prepare for Verbal Ability and reading comprehension by Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay", "Verbal Ability and reading comprehension for CAT by Nishit K. Sinha". RC section will typically, have short passages followed by 3-7 questions that you ought to solve based upon your inferences of the passage. VA section, primarily, comprises of jumbled paragraphs, complete the paragraphs, spot the odd line of the passage, find the correct inference of the passage, find the correct summary of the passage (these passages in VA section are short 2-3 liners).
2.) DI-LR: Again books like "How to prepare for logical reasoning and Data Interpretation by Arun Sharma", " Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation by Nishit K Sinha". Practice a wide range of graphs available and different types of logical reasoning questions.
3.) QA: Books like "How to prepare for Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma ", "Quantum CAT by Sarvesh K Verma" are few of the recommended books. Syllabus primarily includes :number system, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, modern maths. These books will guide you a lot.
For more guidance, join a nearby good coaching centre like IMS, TIME, CL, etc.
Apart from all these, from 4-5 months left to CAT, start giving a good number of mock tests, both sectional mocks as well as the entire 3 hour mock and gauge your performance. Join a good online mock test taking site like Handa ka Funda or of TIME or IMS , etc. as these will give you a comparative percentile as well. After giving mocks, do not forget to analyse your exam. This is the most important part, to work upon your mistakes. Analysis might take around 5-6 hours, approx.
Well, since you are starting your preparation so well in advance, slow and steady will win the race. Work hard consistently and strive through your way.
All the best!!
