Dear Jhashuva,
For current affairs make sure your read newpaper daily like "The Hindu" and “The Economic Times”
You can go with Panorama (Pratiyogita Darpan’s) or Manorama.
You can refer previous year papers to check the type of questions asked in the exam. So, that you can prepare accordingly.
You should focus on
pre independence and post independence history of India.
You should also focus more on day to day general science questions. Inventors, discoveries and past nobel prize winners very important.
Good Luck!!
Hi Jhashuva,
Thanks for asking this question, I remember, I was asking the same once But then I ended up to score a rank under 100 AIR in AILET 2015 just because of my GK. I would give you a suggestion and the approach as well.
Approach-
First thing first develope a passion for reading.
There are two parts to CLAT GK preparation.
- Current Affairs: Make sure you read the “The Hindu” daily for international Current Affairs and “The Economic Times” for your daily dose of business news. As can be seen from previous CLAT papers there are certain business/economics related questions.Sports is another area where you can get sure shot question eg. RIO Olympics, Paralympics and international achievements of Indian sportsperson’s.Schemes/Acts by the Govt. of India: different schemes their objectives are to be extensively covered. Many a times questions are asked about the launch date of schemes and the stakeholders in the scheme.
- Static GK: History, Geography, Science and blah blah. Don’t worry this part needs a little brush up of stuff you have read pre 10th.
- History: focus more on the pre-independence and post-independence history of India. World history is rarely touched in CLAT
- Geography: World and Indian geography.More trivia like questions such as “ Which is the northernmost capital in the world?” ans: Reykjavik this kind of questions make the student ponder about his or her analytical capability in GK.
- Science: Focus more on a day to day general science questions. Inventors, discoveries and past Nobel prize winners very important.
Here comes the suggestion:
The biggest problem faced by CLAT students because studying GK can mean studying almost everything where hardly any Static GK questions appear in the exam nowadays. At most, 5 which can also be answered through common knowledge. So following are my suggestions:-
- Don’t do websites which are not required GK Today and Jagran Josh are more than enough. Pay extra attention to the MCQ’s. I would also recommend the October to April issue of Competition in Focus Magazine it covers news from all aspect and pays special attention to 500 MCQ’s at the end (VERY IMPORTANT)
- Understand one thing please do not waste your time on learning things which are very time to consume and improbable to appear in the exam, for example, Ancient Indian History. I still remember people from my coaching wasting their time making notes from Lucent, please don’t. Rather buy ₹30/- Arihant, it covers ALL aspects of static GK which can come in CLAT.
Please upvote if you feel satisfied with the answer.
All the best for CLAT 2018!
