Experts suggest that the candidates spend at least 6 to 8 dedicated hours per day for GATE preparation. Every exam will be tough for you if you do not practice for it and study without focus. Toughness of any exam depends on the preparation done. Keeping the concepts right will help you in scoring high in the GATE exam.

GATE exam is conducted different for different engineering branches therefore as per your branches you need to be e clear with your syllabus for GATE exam as some branches have more competition like electrical engineering mechanical engineering where is some branches have less competition such as chemical engineering therefore depending upon the branch the toughness of the selection is decided.
Apart from specific syllabus there is some aptitude questions and mathematics part which is common for all the exams so you need to prepare that too if you look at the question paper of net exam then you can find that most of the questions are similar and just based on the syllabus if you are good at solving all the questions of your respective syllabus and you don't find the question paper to be tough.
