Get familiar with the syllabus and exam pattern: Unless you know the syllabus and exam pattern, you will be following a blind path. The syllabus will also held you figure out the scoring areas and your weak points. Also, the exam will be MCQ-based, so you needn't spend time preparing long answers.

Prepare a study schedule: The study schedule should be actionable and cover all the important topics. Remember you have to be smart with your time and focus on the topics which you can score heavily. So, instead of spending prodigious time of topics that carry few marks, devote more time to topics that carry more marks.

Start your preparation with NCERT Books: There are not many books that can compare with NCERT books as far as building concepts is concerned. Most of the concepts as you will find are lucidly explained with lots of examples. Then at the end of each chapter there are problem sets to improve your retention and understanding of concepts. One more reason why NCERT books are a must is they have very few mistakes and will cover almost all the fundamentals you need for the exam. Once you are done with NCERT books you can move on to more advanced books.

Take notes during study: These notes will have all the important points, so you don’t have to go through large block of texts every time you read a topic again. Also, since they are easy to carry, you can bring them along wherever you go and quickly go through all the key points.

Focus on speed and accuracy: These two are critical components to score heavily in the exam. For building speed, you can set a time clock whenever you solve a problem. Also, make a note book of all important formulas so that you revise them regularly to the point you don’t have to spend a lot of time remembering them. Solving sample papers and previous years’ question papers is also a very good idea to build speed and accuracy. Every time you make a mistake, check why it is happening. Is it because of some lack in your understanding of concept or because you don’t remember a formula.

Do revision: Once you complete a chapter or topic, make time for timely revision. It will help you retain the important points without having to repeat the process from scratch.
