Hello,

Coaching is not mandatory for IAS.

It can guide you a bit.

This not necessary. And this is not a must. Why because, you are already graduates! Apart from optional subjects, none of the questions asked in the examination requires specialized study.

If your optional is not your subject of graduation, you might need coaching for that, else it is not a necessity.

There are various online platforms like insights, IAS baba. Vision ias and unacademy app. Buy some  standard books and ncert books.

if you are preparing for upsc IAS-2018 then Current Affairs will play a important role in preparation because now in these days upsc asking so many questions from current affairs.

I wish you all the best !!

Hi,

You should start your prep at Home not only on time but with all the resources necessary for the same. Firstly, embark on your IAS preparation by collecting books for each subject NCERT books from class 6 to 12 can be considered as the holy books for IAS preparation. Next, read news paper on a pretty regular basis to correlate current affairs with each subject. Remember that UPSC will form questions on logical basis rather than direct questions. When you are thorough with the syllabus, Practice answering questions from last year papers. Analyse these papers. Attending mock tests will enable you to evaluate your strength and weakness. Simply attending mock test won’t work out, but interpretation of mistakes and its correction will let you to quick march to your desired service. Keep a tab of government websites and other IAS sites that will keep you updated. Alternately, you can also pick up notes from a known coaching centre or teacher to aid with your prep.

All the best!!!

Dear Harry,

UPSC conducts civil services exam for the recruitment to various civil services of the government of India. The exam is conducted in three stages - Prelims, Mains and Interview test.

Prelims is an objective based screening exam to qualify for the next stage. It has two papers of General studies and Aptitude.

Mains is descriptive based exam where analytical skills of an applicant is assessed. Based on the score of Mains one qualify for interview stage .

You can start your preparation with NCERT books. Focus should be on covering basic subjects  like history, geography, political science, economics, culture and environment .

Develop a habit of reading one newspaper daily. The exam has become more current affairs and analytical based so following newspaper has become very important .You can start with National newspapers like The Indian express or Hindu.

You can also take help of YouTube videos in your preparation. Upsc preparation requires patience and consistency.

All the best!
