Manufacturing engineering of NIFFT is one of the two B. Tech branches and takes from the best of Mechanical engineering, production engineering and industrial engineering but must not be considered as a subsidiary or replacement for any of the aforementioned courses.
NIFFT is the only Foundry and Forge Institute in India. Established for the sake of helping out the growing demands of the industry, it has been offering undergraduate courses since 1990.
The reputation of the Institute may not seem to exist in the common people's minds but the biggest industries and organizations that work in the related circles have a huge amount of respect for the institution.
As far as placement scenario is concerned, the Institute boasts placement of almost the entire graduating class in reputable companies where they can keep learning and are able to grow in both personal and professional capacity.
This institute is not well recognized among common people even in Ranchi also but the students of this institute are well known in core industries. Earlier many students from this institute were offered double placements, but at this time manufacturing sector is not observing so much growth, so the current placement scenario at NIFFT is not at its best. Due to lack of CS and IT branches and less number of students, mass recruiters like TCS, WIPRO, Accenture are not visiting campus for placements. It has only two branches at undergraduate level i.e. Manufacturing Engineering and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, so students have to only depend on core industries for placements. If you compare placements of these two branches at other NIT's this institute is not lagging behind them.
NIFFT, Ranchi is one of the prestigious MHRD funded technical institutes in India.
Its a good college in terms of academics.
Most importantly student quality is pretty good here unlike private colleges.
Since it takes students from JEE mains, previously from IITJEE.
Placements are almost as good as NITs.
Moreover it depends on your caliber and efforts so I wont comment on it now.
If you wanted mechanical branch and are unable to get into NITs(not even PIE which is still good in NITs) , other than north east nits, NIFFT Ranchi is your best option.
If you wanted CS/IT then please consider other GFTIs or new IIITs.
NIFFT is core industry oriented.
If you have interest in control dynamics , electronics circuit design and automation(dcs) then one should join EIE at SASTRA University. EIE has few good Prof.s who interacts more with students. Regarding quality....Students of EIE have done their higher studies at universities like KU Leuven, John Hopkins, Linkoping, TU Hamburg, ALTOO University, TU Dresden and Duke University ..... I hope this will help perspective students.
