Chemical engineers play major roles in sugar industry, no matter of the plant (sugar beet, sugarcane, etc.) as the main source. Chemical engineer, as process engineer, designs, operates, controls, manages and maintains various operations in the entire process of sugar factory. Moreover, they may play roles in the laboratory to analyze the raw materials and all intermediate materials during production as well as to conduct pilot plant tries in the lab for optimizing the processes. Add to this, they can be among directors and top manager of the company. A true chemical engineer has all needed knowledge and skills to play role in all these different positions in a sugar mill. Of course, along with chemical engineer, there are mechanical and electrical engineers working in the sugar mill to maintain machinery and equipment and chemists to run the laboratories.
