The biotechnology engineering at NIT Rourkela is quite good. They have many industrial tie ups with companies like Ispat general Hospital, a unit of RSP. They are continuously introducing new research areas and the latest are “Protein conformations -
neurodegenerative diseases and therapeutic approaches”, “protein engineering”, “Biomedical Image & Signal Processing”, “Rehabilitation
Engineering and Medical Informatics” . They also have good infrastructure and facilities.
First Dept. of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering is a very new. You will not get placement like other branches such as Mechanical, CSE, CE and EE etc. you will get few company option like TCS, IBM, Infosys and few analytics company, which will be very tough to crack.
Curriculum and course structure is very poor. Even you are applying for higher study you will not get any credit. Most of time student suffered from professor politics. Even most of time they will not allow you to pass in a subject. You will never get any inspiration to innovate something new. Professor will force you only to study theory. Most prof are not having any good bachelor degree from reputed institute like NITs, IITs or any good university. Most struggled to clear GATE and luckily got admission in a good university and later became prof in this dept. 90 % prof are form non technology background. You can imagine, how a non technical teacher will teach technical students.
