  • Hydrogen addition of alkene is hydrogenation . Hydrogenation of an alkene is the addition of H to the Carbon -carbon double bond of the alkene.

  • The two H atoms add to the same face of the double bond, . The product of addition of hydrogen to alkene is an alkane.

  • Finely divided metals, such as platinum, palladium and nickel, are among the most widely used hydrogenation catalysts. Hydrogenation plays an important role in food industries, it is used in the food industry to convert liquid oils into saturated fats.
