I am 12 completed student.from now onwards I want to prepare for civils.so please give me how I start prepartion and what books want to read for both mains and prelims.
Hello,
Sounds great, Its good that you want to serve the nation and are interested in civils services.
It is the perfect time i must say when a civil servant started preparation after 12th as you will get enough time to make strong your core areas.
As I'm also a civil servant i can answer this question covering major aspects. So let's start firstly you need to go through the syllabus of UPSC civils and understand the each keyword mention there. And offcourse don't try to cover your preparation for mains perspective just focus on syllabus and apply immense efforts to cover it.
Important books you need to cover:
Geography : NEW NCERTS
Economics : NEW NCERTS
History ( modern) : Spectrum (any)
Ancient : Old ncert (enough)
Environment : Shankar Ias notes
Politics and constitution : cover ncert first and then any standard book ( laxmikant, dd basu or any other) you may prefer
So, cover these books with keeping in mind the each keyword of syllabus of each subject not more than that.
Important points:
* do not read many books
* read ncert and any one standard book if necessary atleast two times and then prepare notes from them.
* read those notes again & again
* notes should contain only imp. Details.
* follow any one newspaper The hindu or Indian express ( on a regular basis)
Next, you have to choose optional subject once you done with above tasks.
Choose optional subject as per your interest and go through it. Try to give atleast 2 readings of optional with above task during your graduation.
Now, you are all set for the exam just after graduation don't take any break start revising your notes and continue read newspaper. Along With these task, cover remain topics like art & culture, GS4, governance.
And during this particular year try to start writing mains answer as many as you can.
I hope you get your answer, all the very best
Thankyou..
Hello Aspirant,
As you have completed you 12th class so now if you want to go for civil services, then you should have a bachelor's degree in any recognized program.Since you have not mentioned about in which civil service you want to serve so it is little bit difficult to guide you accordingly but considering your profile you are an engineering aspirant so you might be interested in ESE (Engineering Services Examination) which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), if you want to ask about any other exam then please mention it in comment section.
For ESE you should have a degree in Engineering from any Central or State University or any other Educational Institutions established by either an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities or UGC. For detailed eligibility criteria you should refer the link given below :-

Preparation for ESE goes parallel with your Undergraduate course because syllabus for ESE solely depends upon your engineering syllabus which you can check from the link given below :-

During your final year you have to apply for ESE and from the link given below you can get all details about the application process for ESE :-
