A CPA is required to be an accountant. That ain't going away. As long as there are firms, you'll require accountants.
CFA is more a “nice to have” certificate. It's not a requirement. For anything.
If you want to become a lawyer, you need to pass the bar. If you want to become an accountant, you require a pass an accountant examination.
If however you want to become a financial analyst, you don't require a CFA. You could have studied astro physics and you'll still be given an interview to become a financial analyst.
Given you have more and more people passing a CFA, its value in general is declining. It's very similar to people having graduated with first class degrees from university. If more people have a top degree and a CFA, how are you, as recruiter, going to pick your guy for the job?..
