Yes it is possible.
There are many such research organizations that you can join even after your MBBS. Some of them are:
- ICMR (Indian council for medical research)
- Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, CCMB (center for cellular and molecular biology)
- Tata institute of fundamental research (TIFR)
- NIMHANS (national institute of medical health and neurosciences)
- World health organization (WHO)
The ICMR initiated the Short Term Studentship (STS) Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. This program is only for MBBS/BDS students studying in Medical/Dental colleges recognized by MCI/DCI, before they appear in their final exams.
A few institutions provide direct admission to Meritorious Medical Graduates to Research Programs leading to Ph.D. The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences ( NIM – HANS ), Bangalore is one of the prominent institutions that offer this facility.
