Hi Rachana, of course, it is possible to switch from science stream to commerce or humanities. Well, if you think that this switch is inevitable and that you can make a better career out of this change, then I would say this decision has to be well thought out and a judicious one.

At LPU, a fashion design course is a course that covers the art of designing beautiful clothing and fashion accessories. These courses look at the work of famous designers and the culture of the time to show students how great fashion designs come to be.

At LPU one can learn

  • INDUSTRIAL TRAINING The course enables a student to work with industry for a full term, where the student shall apply the skills learned during his entire design .

  • INTERNATIONAL IMMERSION  Students will have international exposure to institutes, industries, and corporate. It helps students find new grounds for learning overseas.

  • KNITWEAR DESIGN The course shall equip students with understanding and application of photography following the fashion industry

  • LINGERIE DESIGN The course imparts the skill of developing patterns and construction of lingerie with knit and stretchable fabric. It imparts special construction skills for lingerie wear. This course is important because of recent expansion in the field of the lingerie market and gives new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to the students.

The eligibility criteria for being a designer is :

  • Passing Class 12 in any stream : You can directly take admission to a BDes course if you have graduated high school from a recognized educational board, through direct admission to colleges, or through various entrances and counselling afterward.
  • Diploma in Design : You can pursue BDes if you have completed your diploma course in design recognized by AICTE.

Unfortunately , there are no such good public institutions in India . NIFT and NID has age limits. You may join management or other courses for emlpoybility or join hobby and craft courses in home science department . For professionally working and getting best education , there are certain limitations in India .

You may consider joining global institutes after qualifying for best courses .

All the best!

Rachana, you can certainly do so. Or while still studying medicine, because your passion lies in Designing, may be you can take up Distance learning courses in Designing. Now UGC has approved studying 2 courses simultaneously provided one is a regular course and the other is a Distance course. Now it is quite understandable that a day in the life of a Medical Student is never easy. But instead of waiting to complete your MBBS, then 1 year of mandatory internship and then move to study Designing courses, you can study Designing courses through Distance learning. So once you complete your MBBS, post your internship, you can switch the sectors instead of waiting and then completing your Designing course. That way you will save couple of years at hand. There are quite a few streams of designing that you can consider. They are Textile designing, Fashion, Interior designing and many more to choose from.
