Biotechnology is any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives, to make or alter products or processes for a specific use. It is a multidisciplinary course including Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, Recombinant DNA technology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics. SRM University Haryana is a good institute for Biotechnology and related fields in India. This is because they provide international exposure to students via their semester aboard program. They provide a good opportunity for students to research from second/third year onwards.

Hi Smruti.

The two subjects that you have mentioned - Dental Science and biotechnology, both are two completely different fields of science.

Biotechnology is a relatively new field to have a career in that is emerging at tremendous pace. With advent of technologies like embryo screening and gene editting, biotechnology is no where to go.

B. Sc. and B. Tech. are two different degrees in the same field. The former is more research oriented and the latter is more industry-oriented. Thus, whivh of the two to choose should majorly depend your ambitions and the environments you would wish to work in. A biotecnology graduate can find jobs in hospitals, clinical labs, public healthcare organizations, pharmaceutican companies, food and beverage industry, dairy industry, clinical research, research laboratories and in universities as academicians.

Salary varies with experience and skills. A fresh graduate can expect an average salary of 10,000 INR to 15,000 INR in India. The opportunities after Bachelor's are limited. Thus, it is suggested to go for Master's, especially in case of B. Sc.

Whether you should choose BDS or Biotech should be entirely your decision. If genetics and biochemistry are what you like more, biotechnology can be a great career option. If helping people ease their pain and assist them in oral care is what you like, BDS is no less fascinating. Both areas of study require immense dedication, patience and time. Decide carefully before investing years into it.

Hope it helps.
