For sure you can go for it ,but provided there are some conditions posted by some of the college and university if you satisfy that you can easily enter the league.
Dont get upset because these conditions are given by very few college but in maximum college you can surely opt for this branch of engineering.

The eligibility criteria varies college to college like if student wants to take admission in Amity university then PCM/PCB with 60% should be there or in case of DY Patil college 12th Std., HSC, CBSE with Physics, Chemistry, Biology taken together with 50% marks for general category and 45% for reserved category would be required. So yes you can do bioinformatics from some colleges.
