In order to pursue a career as an IAS officer, students must successfully complete a 10+2 in any stream of subjects with a minimum of 50% marks.
The next step after completing a 10+2 from a recognised board, candidates must enrol in a bachelor's degree programme. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree programme is a minimal requirement for a career as an IAS Officer. One can also get a postgraduate degree in any field and then appear for UPSC exams to become an IAS officer. MBA, M.Sc., M.Tech., and MA are some of the most popular master's degrees.
Candidates are eligible to sit for the UPSC exam after successfully completing a bachelor's degree programme m They must prioritise areas of civil service in which they wish to work after being selected, such as Income Tax Officer, Indian Administrative Services, Indian Foreign Services, Indian Police Services, and other positions.
Candidates who pass the UPSC Mains test will be eligible to take the UPSC Prelims exam. They are called for interviews after passing the qualifying prelims exam. The performance of applicants ik the interviews is used to make the final selection for the Union Public Service Commission Examination.
Candidates in the general category are eligible for six UPSC attempts till they reach the age of 32. Candidates from the OBC category are entitled for nine attempts till they reach the age of 35. SC/ST candidates can take the exam as many times as they wish till they reach the age of 37.
