After the liberalization of India’s economy there is a huge demand for highly skilled lawyers.
Some of the career prospects are:
You can appear for Civil and Judicial services in your respective States, IAS Services, JAGS, services in Army, Corporate Lawyer, Legal Advisors in MNC’s and Company’s, Legal Processing outsourcing, Practice in Criminal, Civil or Income Tax as an advocate.
It will be advisable if you do your degree from a well known university and that provides prime placement opportunity, outstanding exposure and professional enhancement training.
BA,LLB or LLB is a professional course which any person irrespective of which stream he/ she has studied can pursue it.
There are two formats followed by the Indian education system as far as graduation in law is concerned.
- BA,LLB/BA’LLB (Hons)/ Bcom, LLB / BBA,LLB: This is an integrated 5 years course and a student just after 12th can join the same. Either you can sit for the Common entrance test (CLAT) which will get you through any of the best National Law Universities or you can also apply to different government as well as private colleges, all conduct different entrance tests.
- LLB: this is one when you have already done you graduation and you decide to pursue law further. This is a 3 year degree course; and national law universities and a lot of private colleges do not follow this pattern. But a lot of state and central government universities like Delhi University, Calcutta University, Pujab University etc have LLB courses.
Yes, you can give CLAT exam and pursue LLB after your undergraduate degree also. Doing LLB, will open a window of opportunities but in doing so, you'll have to wait couple of a more years to lend a job ot start practice.
Hope this helps, all the best.
