There is only one exam for admission in all the top engineering colleges in India and that is Joint Entrance Examination, JEE. It is conducted in two phases that are Main and Advanced. Those who clear the cutoff of Main are eligible for advanced. You need to prepare for this exam for atleast one year to get into a good engineering college.

The syllabus of JEE is from 11th and 12th Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and you need to clear the cutoff of the exam on  whole in Main and separately for the subjects in advanced.

Main marks and question distribution:-

Mathematics 25 Questions, 100 Marks

Physics 25 Questions, 100 Marks

Chemistry 25 Questions, 100 Marks

Right answer, 4 Marks, Wrong answer, -1.

Main grants you admission into various NITs and IIITs and GFTIs.

Advanced grant you admission into IITs and IISC, and some other institutes.

IITs>NITs==IIITs.

There are various colleges that you can join for engineering after your 12th class, You have to first try scoring a good rank in JEE Mains and Advanced exam to get into a descent IIT if not then through the basics of JEE Mains there are various Government colleges that you can take admission in if your JEE Mains rank meets the criteria.

If both of them dont work out for you then give state CET exam to get into a state engineering college such as WBJEE,etc.

You can also try giving private universiy exams such as SRMJEE,VITEE,etc.
