I m notn saying thats its gonna be easy , it will take hardships, you have to take atleast 3 to 4 hours from your daily routine and trust me that 3 to 4 hours will surely speak in the future.

Hello Vivek, See for UPSC CSE it is not necessary to have coaching but for this exam, you need to have focus, dedication, confidence and no compromises toward the studies... steps that increase the chance to clear UPSC

1. Well aware of the syllabus (what all topics need to be covered)

2. Exam pattern (Type of questions they ask and the questions they avoid)

3. Go to the previous 10year question paper (pre and mains)

4. Solve as many as practice paper and mock test

5. The Most important is Writing practice because even if you clear the prelims paper, mains paper is all about "answers to the point" and "time management" as the paper is lengthy and allotted time is less

It good to have a goal early and more important is to stick to that goal.B.tech curriculum is designed in such a way that you can pass easily if you will attend classes properly without much hard work from your side (if college is good).Some my suggestions are

1.use more efficiently the internet then you don't need to go coaching.

2.cover Ncert to 12th.

3.Start reading The Hindu newspaper.

4.select main optional subjects and explore some knowledge about them.

It is possible but very difficult. There are three aspects of the preparation which you need to manage:

1. Finishing the syllabus in time. With self-study, you will never understand where to stop. Many self-study candidates keep studying Polity or Geography or History for more than 6 months realizing the mistake way too late.
2. Testing yourself: You need to ensure that whatever you’re studying, it is of the Civil Services level. There is no point of doing substandard preparation. For that, you need a constant testing mechanism, which is impossible to attain on your own.
3. Motivation: This might seem almost trivial, but is a most important factor. Without any external assistance, students tend to lose direction and motivation and start taking it easy, which is never an option, in such an examination.

--News paper reading- read news paper on a pretty regular basis to correlate current affairs with each subject. Remember that UPSC will form questions on logical basis rather than direct questions.

--Magazine reading- apart from news papers, magazines like yojana, kurushetra, the frontline etc plays a decisive role in improving your writing skills for mains.

--Writing practice- practice answering questions from previous question papers. Set time limit for each question and practice more to improve writing skills.

--Question paper analysis- a complete analysis of previous years question papers will give you an idea about the recent trend of question formulation. In fact, there is no guarantee from UPSC or UPSC don’t set certain percentage for each subject.

--Mock tests and interpretation– attending mock test will enable to evaluate your strength and weakness. Simply attending mock test won’t work out, but interpretation of mistakes and its correction will let you to quick march to your desired service.

--Decide your optional paper at an early stage- think of your optional and prepare it before prelims will reduce your pressure at mains stage.

--Study general studies papers along with mains- along with prelims, study GS papers for mains. --There are common papers for mains and prelims. Hence, it will save your time and energy also.

--Follow useful government websites– various governmental websites are cluster of recent government policy and information.
