If you want to practice medicine in Australia after competing MBBS in India then, you will have to clear AMC (Australian Medical Council) Exam. Passing this exam will make you equivalent to an Australian medical graduate.

This test has two parts. Part I is MCQ based which will test your medical knowledge and asks you a range of questions from all medical specialties.

After clearing part one you need to appear for part II which is clinical test . This test is a lot harder and you will need experience before doing this test. The problem is due to the oversupply of international medical graduates you will need to wait on average 18 months from passing AMC part I to undertake AMC part II.

To participate in AMC exam you need to show your English language proficiency . You can do this by getting A or B on OET or 7+ on all sections of IELTS.
After passing both parts of AMC Exam, you will be given AMC Certificate . This entitles you to apply for internship in Australia. You need to do a one year internship in Australia to receive general registration .

You need the general registration to apply for all medical specialist training positions in Australia.

This is a test to see whether you have medical expertise and pass the exam would make you equal to an Australian medical graduate. The test is in two parts:

• Part 1: Multiple Choice Questions-This tests your medical expertise and asks you a variety of questions from all medical specialties.
• Part 2: Once you have cleared part 1, which should be very easy to take into account medical education in India, you will need to do part 2, which is the clinical exam. This test is a lot tougher and you're going to need some practise before you do this test. The problem is due to oversupply of foreign medical graduates, you will have to wait an average of 18 months after passing AMC Part I to undergo AMC Part II.
• You need to demonstrate your English language proficiency in order to participate in the AMC test. You can do this by having A or B on OET or 7 + on all IELTS sections.

If you pass all parts, you will obtain the AMC Certificate. This gives you the right to apply for an internship in Australia. You need a one-year internship in Australia to obtain general registration and you need general registration to qualify for all medical specialist training positions in Australia.

The catch is that there are not enough internship places available and foreign medical graduates actually do not get a place and are thus unable to obtain general registration. It's quite grim at the moment, with thousands of AMC Credential holders unemployed because they can't get an internship. Many of them work in other sectors, such as taxi driving, manual labour, and it's sad to see.
