Data Science is a field where data ,algorithms and technology are used together to solve complex problems. It is one of the hottest trends in computer science and with growing data ,there are huge demands for data scientist.

To become a data scientist ,you can follow the following basic steps to proceed towards your career in data science :

*  Learn programing. This is a basic and important step. For data science ,one of the most important language is the python language which is also commonly used and easier to learn when compared to other languages of data science. You can learn thought various online learning classes.  You can take courses on Coursera.

*  You can also learn the basics of Machine Learning . It would give you an idea of how data is used to train Machines to learn and understand data and used it to solve  complex problems and find solutions.

* You can also go for competitive programming to improve your programming techniques . Sites such as Kaggle provide opportunities for learning to program on data science and machine learning .

* You can also join online communities for data Science as reading is one thing but learning from our peers and getting to clear your doubts and getting it explained to you is another thing .

* You can also learn the basics of statistics as data science is mostly about the statistics of data and information.

After this , keep practising and competing on Kaggle and with time ,once you improve your understanding and programming ,it will be your first few steps towards data science and your career in it .

Dear Ruban, you can either pursue your Masters in Data Science or take up Certification programmes. The most in demand Data Science technologies are SAS, R, Python, Big Data, Hadoop. The implemebtation concepts that are being used mostly are Data exploration, Hadoop, Spark,  Regression models and Hypothesis testing. Recently there was a list of skills that have been released which have topped the list to become a Data Scientist. They are: Python Coding, Hadoop Platform, SQL/Database/Apache Spark/Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence/Data Visualisation/Unstructured Data. Now coming from a commerce background, this all might sound Greek and Latin but with practise you can make it. Now all the companies don't use the same technology. So you need to pick up one skill amongst these, get certified and start applying for jobs. Python has been ranked the best course to become a Data Scientist. So you can actually get certified in Python in an Institution near by you.
