Hello,
I want to tell you that if you are pursuing Electronics and Communication engineering then there is no hard and fast rule that you can appear in Gate only in your current branch.
If you want to give gate in Chemistry or chemical engineering then you are absolutely free to give.
I have seen many seniors who were from Mechanical branch and they gave gate in Computer Science branch.
So if you have planned your future towards chemistry related subjects, you can prepare for it.
But there is only one drawback that you will have a lot to prepare along your current branch i.e EC which is not an easy branch.
Needs a lot of hardwork.
So if you want to go for gate in Chemistry/chemical eng then you should choose this only when you have full surety about your branch.
Hope it helps!
Regards!

Hi Syed! Yes you can take chemistry in GATE
All the best!
Hi Syed,
You can give gate in any stream irrespective of your branch but will only get an MTech admission in that particular branch in which you have written your gate.
Although if your target is some PSUs and other recruitments through GATE then it could be a barrier to give GATE from another stream as opposed to your graduation stream. These companies have some branch-specific criteria along with GATE stream paper which you have appeared in.
Hope it was useful to you and your query was resolved. Feel free to contact us for any queries. All the best :)
Dear aspirant,
Chemistry is the subject not a exam option. It depends on Gate exam syllabus that it consists of chemistry or not. If it is in your gate syllabus then definitely chemistry portion will also come in paper. And if you are asking from point of preparation then you should prepare it well to score good marks in gate.
