Hello Neel Arnav,

As you are from the Humanities I will assume that you have not had mathematics for the past two years so in order for you to re-catch up with mathematics, you will have to start from a beginner stage.

Here are certain tips which you need to keep in mind before starting of:

  • Try to understand mathematics and not memorise it. Mathematics involves a lot of formaulae and memorising them and at times it becomes an extremely tedious task so instead of memorising them try and understand where it comes from.
  • You will only get better if you constantly keep practicing it, the more you practice mathematics the more fluent you will become with problem solving. Set a small everyday goal, like I'll do 15-20 mathematics problems today and carry on. This will help you improve your skills way too quickly.
  • Try practicing mathematics with someone who is familiar with the subject, this will help you instantly carify your doubts and even discuss solutions.
  • Try coming to the solutions of problems by yourself and not by using the calculator or your mobile phone. The more you calculate the better you will understand the formula and the concept behind it.
  • I would suggest that at the start you try solving even the easiest of problems with the use of pen and paper where you write down each step you use in order to come to that solution. This will make it easier to find where you are lacking and which step you are unclear about or making mistakes in.
  • There are many online sites which will provide you with amazing modules and explanations in order to sharpen up your mathematic skills. Initially when I was in this stage where I had to brushen up my mathematic skills after 12th, I used the modules provided at Khan Academy in order to do so. It has amazing video explanations and to test if you have understood the topics covered, it also has tests and assessments.
  • Interpret all sorts of graphs and statistics that you find in the text books of other subjects or in the newspaper, do this before reading the provided explanation, derive your own interpretation and then compare it with the provided interpretation of the data. This makes a huge difference as at once you will be clearing any potential doubts in two subjects.

All the best!

I hope this answers your queries!

Do revert back in case of any further doubts.

Hey, you shouldn't be too tense or worried. However, If you wanna keep yourself on track and want to be more ready before you join you can study your 12th standard economics portion again. Because for the First year of Bachelor at least 1/3 will be from your 12th syllabus. You will have to learn all the basics because economics is all about the basics, be it formula or terms you need to understand. And if you wanna do more than just that you can look up to the syllabus you will be dealing with, see what you don't know and try to prepare that way. I hope this helped

Best wishes
