If a student appears for improvement exams in CBSE , the marks which will appear on the marksheet will be the greater marks scored by the candidate among the two. So, if you have scored 74 in the chemistry in the last year board exams and you are scoring 70 in the improvement exam then the marks which will appear in the marksheet will be 74 i.e, the greater among the two.
Candidate appearing for improvement exams, it will not affect the JEE counseling. So, it's not a topic of worry.
