After 10th standard to do MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) a student must take Science in 11th and 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects.

There are various entrance exam conducted to give admission in MBBS. Now , MBBS can be done from government or private institutes. There is high competition for MBBS in government colleges because it has high cutoffs in entrance exam. MBBS can also be done from private institutes but fees of private institutions are huge hence to get MBBS in government colleges is difficult but not impossible.

You have enough time to prepare for the entrance exam to get MBBS in government colleges across India. If worked hard after 10th you can get admission in any institute of your choice.

Now entrance exam conducted for getting admission in MBBS are NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam Test), AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences).

A student can apply for any one of the exam or for both the entrance exams.

NEET Exam :-

Marking Scheme and Number of Questions :-

NEET Exam comprises of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 45 questions in Physics, 45 questions in Chemistry and 90 questions in Biology.

There are total 180 questions. Total marks of the examination is 720.

If a student gives correct answer for a question then 4 marks are rewarded. If wrong answer is marked then 1 mark is deducted. If no option is attempted for a question then no marks are deducted or rewarded.

NEET Portion :-

NEET Portion comprises of 11th and 12th standard portion of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Books for the entrance examination :-

NCERT Textbooks of 11th and 12th standards of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are a must. They comprise of the concepts and numericals which is supposed to be practiced by a student.

Reference Books for each subject are given below :-

Physics :- Fundamentals of Physics by David Halliday, Resnick ; Objective Physics by D. C Pandey,  Numerical Physics by I. E Irodov ; Concepts of Physics by H. C Verma

Chemistry :- Chemistry is divided as inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.

For inorganic chemistry :- Inorganic Chemistry by O. P Tandon ; Numerical Chemistry by J. D Lee.

For organic chemistry :- Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd ; Organic Chemistry by O. P Tandon.

For physical chemistry :- Numerical chemistry by R. C Mukherjee.

For Biology :- Objective NCERT at Fingertips; Trueman's Biology Volume 1 and Volume 2.

Out of these reference books NCERT textbooks are a must and other you can refer any reference book mentioned according to your choice. But remember not to refer 5-6 books for a single subject as it becomes confusing.

Eligibility :-

In 12th standard a student must score at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There's no limit for number of attempts in the exam.

Preparation :-

After 10th standard itself start preparing for the entrance examination. Prepare a timetable. Start with studying a day for hours according to your capacity and slowly increase it day by day.

In physics without understanding of concepts no question can be solved. So if any doubts arise while preparing no matter how small it is get it cleared at that point of time itself.

In organic chemistry there are many reactions so write at least 5-6 times a day.

It's just the starting so don't feel stressed out about these. Just concentrate on your goal and prepare for the exam.

Be disciplined. Everyday read something. Don't waste your time on any unnecessary things.

Always make handwritten notes of every subject separately.

Also remember that Boards percentage score are also important so in 12th focus on Boards too along with entrance. It's not difficult if planned and prepared in a disciplined manner.

The last thing will be to be consistent and work hard to reach your goal.

If you still have any queries feel free to ask in the comment section down below.

All the best.

Hello Harsha,

Its the best time, when you have decided to work for your career.

Since you are in 10th right now, so, first off prepare hard for your boards, and then

right after the exams, start the coaching for the MBBS entrance exams.

Also, you will have to choose, PCB as your subjects, to be able to do MBBS.

Hope that helps!!
